Valvoline Superstock Charity Invitational, Introducing the celebs & their rides

The Valvoline Superstock Charity Invitational is only seven days away, and what a mission it has been to get this going for the fans to witness possibly the best speedway show in New Zealand. Old mate Covid certainly hammered the initial plans but the Rotorua Stockcar Club is pretty happy with the way this is coming together for Steve and Kirsty and the fantastic charities they support through the Steve Williams Foundation. The invited drivers are in place, the celebs are too, and what a great group they are, the racing on the second night will be very interesting!

If you were undecided about attending, just to feel the noise of a full field of the country’s best superstocks, then hopefully this might sway you to attend, as well as the fact it is all about two very cool charities and a real good bugger who’s organised this deal.

If you don't wish to book in advance, then yes there is gate sales. Can't make it, no worries, Jase and his most excellent team from The Pits TV are coming to live stream the event to the masses. Links to the stream will be available closer to event time.

Please, don't click on anything linked in the comments. We have taken measures to stop this happening, turning off comments at this stage but once the page switches to the new experience we can stop links being posted.

The main event has taken a couple of directional changes of late, the entries for the Best of the Rest had been a little slow, so instead of having three races with a small field, we have decided to spice up the Qualifying Night with two Stockcar Teams Races.  What could be better than the Rotorua Rascals taking on arch-rivals the Kihikihi Kings Stockcar Team for the Centuary Yuasa Stockcar Teams Match.  The Team Members will be announced next week.

If you can’t make it to this event and would like to make a Donation to these very worthy charities you can do so on this link - DONATIONS PAGE  All the money donated will go directly to the Charities.

Here they are racefans, the celebrities who are changing direction and strapping themselves in to 1500kg steel machines knowing full well they are designed for full contact racing. Check their comments.....

“Any time I can come back to NZ and race, even if it's in a lawn mower. I jump at the opportunity! It's been 10 years since I last raced on dirt, so I'm looking forward to the challenge and supporting a great charity.”
Andre Heimgartner

“I can’t wait to take part in this event, paradise valley was my home track growing up & it’s been 15 years since I last raced there so it will be nice to return to the roots & for such a great cause. I really like the look of the Rees chassis so I’m happy that scrapman racing are throwing me the keys to one of theirs. I might enjoy it too much and want to get back in one regularly!“
Richie Stanaway

“The last time I drove a Super Stock was at Huntly in 2005, so been a while. Really looking forward to having another crack and getting out on the track with some mates from a bunch of other motorsport disciplines.  The Rotorua venue is bloody awesome and the event is obviously going to be raising some dollars for a couple of incredible charities, so really hoping everyone gets behind it and makes it something special.”
Greg Murphy

“Excited to come to Rotorua and have my first drive in a Super stock! I have driven a super saloon at springs before but this is going to be a whole different experience. Hoping I surprise myself with some speed. More importantly I hope it’s a great night for Ronald McDonald House and starship!”
Simon Evans

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be invited to take part in this event, it's going to be awesome fun racing against some of NZ Motorsport's finest competitors and all for a great cause.  I have huge appreciation for the power that these Superstock machines put out, along with the time and money that goes into preparing the cars, so I'm blown away to be given the opportunity really. It will be a lot different to racing with two wheels on tarmac.

Like many Kiwi kids, my Saturday evenings in summer were spent watching speedway racing. I've always wanted to give it a go. In fact, my Dad was building me a ministock when I got started in motorcycle road racing and we couldn't afford to do both. I chose two wheels and that has dominated my life ever since. 15 years later, I'm really excited to finally get a taste of speedway racing!

I will be competing in the opening two rounds of the New Zealand Supersport Championship at Taupo and Manfeild on my MTF Finance Kawasaki ZX6R also in December, so it's going to be a busy month with every weekend spent in the North Island."

“Many years ago when I was a young buck growing up in Hawkes Bay I spent many nights pit crewing for superstocks, however, I never managed to wrangle my way into the driver’s seat. I’m really looking forward to this event, it will be my first time competing in a superstock, I look forward to catching up with you all on Saturday 17th December.”Time to play in the dirt!
Daniel Woolhouse aka Fanga Dan

“Stoked to be invited to be a part of the Superstock Charity Invitational at Paradise Valley Speedway, racing against some good mates for a good cause raising funds for The Starship Foundation and Ronald McDonald House!”

The Salter Cartage Ministock Battle.

The Steve Williams Foundation has been a huge supporter of the Ministock Class for a lot of years.  Not often sponsoring the stars, but those whose circumstances and budget meant racing was not a given, and were very grateful for a bit of financial help.

When setting up this Charity Meeting, which of course is all about Steve and Kirsty’s other passion Ronald McDonald House and The Starship Hospital, it was always going to be that the Ministock Class would be involved.

The criteria that Steve set was that entrants would be 2nd or 3rd year drivers and not necessarily those that are at the front of the pack.  Two from each of the North Island tracks and six from the host track Rotorua.  The Driver’s Reps from each track were asked to put forward nominations and then left it to Steve to make the decision.

The Rotorua Stockcar Club would like to take this opportunity to thank Steve, Kirsty and the Foundation for all the time, effort and money they have put into what we believe is the most important class for the sport’s future.  Just look how many champions from across all the classes cut their teeth in the Ministock Class.
